My name is Karen and I am the founder of Miss Apple’s Sweets and the one responsible for all the sweetness :). I am Brazilian and I have always loved sweets, desserts and crafts since I was a child. I loved making origami miniatures and scale models at school. I graduated in Brazil as a Graphic Designer (I am the one who created all the design of Miss Apple’s Sweets: website, logo, stationery, photograpy by me). After a few years working, although I still liked being creative, I realized that sitting in front of a computer all day just wasn’t for me. In 2007, I moved to the United States to improve my English and try to figure out what I really wanted to do. In 2009, I came across a basic cake decorating course at a craft shop in New York City and there, my passion for cake decorating began. The sweets and baking have been part of my life since I was little girl as in Brazil we have a huge variety of desserts and we are always experimenting at home. With cake decorating the experiments became for me a part of a dream job which finally now, I am able to make it true here in the UK. Besides the traditional English flavours that I have learned since I moved to the UK (February 2012), I want to introduce you some of the deliciousness we have in my home country and the most famous, delicious and traditional is the Brigadeiro, which I can also incorporate into my cakes.
I love the challenge to turn people’s words, descriptions and personalities into a unique design combined to a delicious mouth-watering cake and watching the smile on every person’s face when they see the cake I have created for them, as well as when they see a decorated table full of customised Brigadeiros in different flavours for their event.
I consider custom design cakes and sweets, edible art and you deserve to appreciate that piece of art with your eyes and taste. I will do my best to make sure you will be delighted with all the results.
Now, why Miss Apple?
When I was 12 my dad installed internet in our computer for the first time. I had to chose a nickname to have my e-mail account and the first thing that crossed my mind was apple (maçã in Portuguese). Later on the nickname picked up among my friends and kept following me to High School, then University and when I moved to the United States, obviously, it became Apple and I was also living in The Big Apple. My husband then started calling me Miss Apple, I got an Apple tattoo and here we are!
